The Breathing Wall
Overview
BRIEF: Develop and create an immersive installation on the theme of 'forest' incorporating multisensory interactions as an exemplary pitch to festivals, corporate spaces, and events furthering the ethos and practice of Forest Design Labs.
CONCEPT: Solitude in Connectedness explores how humans find balance between inner stillness and environmental connection. The installation is designed for corporate spaces and is a sensory escape from high-pressure workspaces inspired by the essence of the forest. It merges mechanical movement and digital interactivity to facilitate a meditation that sparks mindfulness and renews connections to nature.
At its core lies The Breathing Wall — a kinetic installation driven by proximity sensors, motors, and layered mechanisms like kinetic structures and magnetic fabric. Each movement mimics the slow pulse of breathing, inviting users to pause, reflect, and engage. The design evolves through responsive materials such as 3D-printed wave sheets and magnetic walls, transforming passive observation into tactile interaction.
OUTCOME: The installation reimagines office spaces into restorative zones: a digital detox through motion, light, and rhythm. It repositions Forest Design Lab as the pioneer in multisensory environmental design, blending technology and nature together to facilitate wellness, empathy, and creative focus in everyday environments.
