Environmental graphics
Overview
BRIEF: Propose strategic solution to bring values (sustainability, safety, personal transformation, and deep connection with nature) and essence of brand and context across Indiahikes community campus basecamp in the Himalayas.
CONCEPT: The intervention is constructed upon visual storytelling as a journey of transformation, parallel to the psychological shift Indiahikes advocates for-from "I can't" to "I can." The design approach utilizes fragments that then come together to create a complete picture, symbolizing how every challenge, step, and interaction on the trek create internal change.
Grounded in semiotics, the system draws upon:
Discursive cues like trail markers, cairns, and local symbols
Narrative structures based on the hero's journey
Axiological values of independence, simplicity, community, and deep connection with nature.
These insights translate into environmental graphics, patterns, and illustrations inspired by Himalayan landscapes, local culture, and trekking experiences. Applied across pathways, tents, gathering areas, and information points, the visuals build an experiential ecosystem where brand, story, and space intersect.
Patterns are an extension of Indiahikes' identity that helps trekkers navigate intuitively, creating curiosity and emotional connect. The idea is to have them start their exploration even before the actual trek.
OUTCOME:
This basecamp becomes an immersive space with narratives at every visual touchpoint, conveying the mission of Indiahikes.
Trekkers experience:
Stronger emotional connection with the brand
Clarity through intuitive wayfinding
A sense of inspiration and reflection
A deeper understanding of the transformation that trekking has to offer
This design intervention takes the campsite from purely a functional space to a storytelling experience that emphasizes the essence of Indiahikes and inspires trekkers to start their own growth journeys.
